PROF. A. P. DE SILVA HONOURED BY THE ROYAL SOCIETY OF CHEMISTRY, UK.

A fellow of the NASSL, Prof. A. P. de Silva (Professor emeritus, the Queen’s University of Belfast) was recently awarded a prestigious ‘Chemical Landmark Award’ by the Royal Society of Chemistry of the UK for his pioneering work on molecular logic and fluorescent PET sensing, which enabled the development of PET sensors in portable blood analyzers which have helped save thousands of human and animal lives around the world. Dr. Helen Pain, the CEO of the RSC paid tribute to Prof. de Silva at the unveiling ceremony stating that “Professor de Silva’s work will continue to influence chemistry for decades, if not centuries to come and that’s a really important legacy to leave the chemical sciences.”
