    Workshop: Policy and Diplomacy for Scientists

NASSL President

Dr. Azeez M Mubarak is President of National Academy of Sciences Sri Lanka. He commenced his two-year term on 8 April 2016.

Dr. Mubarak, a Commonwealth Scholar, graduated from the University of Colombo and has a PhD from the University of Cambridge, U.K, and functioned as Director/CEO of the Industrial Technology Institute (formerly CISIR) from 2002-2012.

He was a Member of the National Science and Technology Commission and has served on the Council of University of Colombo and several other Boards including Post Graduate Institute of Science (PGIS), Peradeniya, National Engineering Research & Development Centre (NERDC) and Sri Lanka Accreditation Board (SLAB). Currently he is on the Board of Rehabilitation of Persons, Properties and Industries Authority (REPPIA).

He is a Past General President of Sri Lanka Association for the Advancement of Science and a Past President of Institute of Chemistry, Ceylon. Dr. Mubarak is an independent non-executive Director of Union Chemicals Lanka PLC, EB Creasy & Co PLC, Darley Butler PLC, Muller & Phipps (Ceylon) PLC, Laxapana Batteries PLC and Duramedical (Lanka) Ltd.

Current News:

Congratulations to Rizna Arooz, University of Moratuwa and Eranji Jayaweera, University of Peradeniya, the PhD students who were nominated by the National Academy of Sciences of Sri Lanka, and were awarded full scholarships to attend the Commonwealth Science Conference 2017 by the Royal Society.
